In short: Lamp Lock works entirely on your phone. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to use Ask or Circles. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
Screen Time
Lamp Lock uses Apple's Screen Time to lock the apps you pick. Apple designed this so that the app cannot see which apps you picked or how you use them: it receives private tokens that only work on your phone. Your screen-time numbers are drawn by a part of the app that Apple keeps sealed; Lamp Lock can show them to you but cannot read, save or send them.
On your phone only
Your streak, verses read, milestones, settings, reading plan progress, prayer journal and the feelings you pick before praying are saved only on your device. The camera is used only when you choose to unlock with a printed Bible: the page is read on the phone and nothing is saved or sent. Reminders are local notifications. Delete the app to remove everything.
Ask (optional AI answers)
Ask works only after you agree, and you can turn it off in Settings. When you ask a question:
- Your question and the last part of your conversation are sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which asks Google's Gemini AI to write the answer. Every verse shown is quoted exactly from the World English Bible, not written by the AI.
- Our server never writes your questions, answers or IP address to disk or to any log.
- So that common questions can be answered instantly, the first question of a conversation and its answer may be kept in the server's memory for up to 3 days. They are not linked to you, your device or your network address.
- To stop automated abuse, the server keeps a short count of requests from a random ID created by the app and from your network address, in memory for about a minute. The app also uses Apple's App Attest to show the server it is the genuine app. This does not tell us who you are.
- Google processes the question under the Gemini API terms and does not use it to train its models.
Please don't include personal details in your questions. Your conversation is saved only on your phone and can be deleted in Settings.
Circles (optional shared streaks)
Circles are off until you create or join one. If you do, our server stores:
- the first name or nickname you type,
- your current streak, best streak and verses read this week,
- which circles you are in,
- a scrambled form of a random ID created by the app, so your phone can update your own entry. It is not your Apple ID, cannot identify you, and is not used anywhere else.
Only people who have a circle's code can see its members' names and streaks. Nothing about which apps you lock or how you use your phone is ever sent. Leaving your last circle, or choosing “Delete my Circles data” in Settings, removes your name and scores from the server immediately.
Purchases
Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
Your rights (including EU, UK and California)
Ask and Circles send data only after you choose to use them, and you can stop at any time. For Circles you can delete everything we hold from Settings in the app. Our server is in the United States, and Google (our processor for Ask) may process questions in other countries. You can contact us or your local data protection authority with any concern.
Children
Lamp Lock does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
